The Listening List: W/E 01.09.2012

Helen And Olly’s Required Listening – BBC Radio 5 Live, 27.08.12

There’s no denying that anyone with a love for this medium will get exciting
when noticing that a programme all about radio is going to be broadcast.
In this case it’s a programme looking at the potential future of radio, from a wide
range of platforms, and in the case of a fair few of them, there’s not a studio in sight.

Presented by Helen Zaltzman and Olly Mann from the Answer Me This podcast,
the show takes a three hour journey, stopping off at a podcast about flying
(with a more than suggestive name), a small but very successful station broadcasting
to the residents of the Isle of Scilly, and meeting the oldest and youngest DJs,
Sony Award winners Beryl and Betty and Star Radio’s 11 year old Jack Hill respectively.

In an age when many of the commercial broadcasters are wondering why they
are struggling to get listeners, this programme showcases where the innovation is
in modern day radio, and highlights that anyone can have a go at it and go in any
direction they want to, no matter how crazy and offbeat it is.

About Robin Blamires

I live in Canterbury and really enjoy radio and audio producing. I currently present a show at community station CSR FM called "Blam Jam" where I play a wide selection of soul, jazz and electronica music, and elsewhere in the station I help out with producing the station sound, creating on-air idents and sweepers. I would love to bring my skills into professional radio and continue to learn more.
